We kicked off our last Wednesday of the month gathering with a short film, "Nothing Special," an intimate introduction to the practice as it informs the everyday life of Joko and some of her students at the San Diego Zen Center. The intention of the film was to provide us with a very human picture of Joko and also to begin very preliminary discussion into her teachings as presented in the documentary.
This month we are much going deeper into Joko's teaching with a selection, "Whirlpools and Stagnant Waters," (click the title to view) from her book Nothing Special: Living Zen. Pei-Li, Chao, and Ben have come up with four "dharma discussion questions" that appear at the end of the reading. Please take these questions as an invitation to reflect and perhaps also to come up with your own comments and additional questions. If you would like to share your reflections with the group ahead of time, please send any writing to [email protected]. We want our dharma discussions to be as inclusive as possible.
